December 2007		 1950s/60s LONDON TRANSPORT DOLLY BUS STOP
Complete head unit - two enamel plates in a steel frame. Original frame, not a repro as seen elsewhere!
So-called "Dolly" stops were the temporary bus stops consisting of a pole with a round head, on a concrete base as used by London Transport from the 1950s until the 1980s. (There is a modern equivalent still used today but this is rather cheap and nasty in comparison!). Dolly stops were used either when a fixed stop had been damaged in an accident or when temporary stops were required for diversions or special events. They were made in all the same bus and coach versions as the fixed stops and this is the 'bus compulsory' type.
This is a complete 'head' (without the pole!) and consists of two enamelled steel plates inside a heavy steel frame. The stop has been well used over the years and has some stone chips on both sides. These have been nicely touched in, in the correct colours (see pictures of both sides) and are only visible close up.
The bus stop measures 13" (33cm) across, inclusing the frame. It weighs over 5kg.

June 2009		 A London Transport Bus & Coach Stop peel off decal, measuring 11 inches in diameter, the sign would have been stuck on to an old enamel bus stop sign when there was a change of service or route. The sign are unused and dates as far as I know from the 1970s, ideal for framing.

May 2008		 Genuine London Transport/ Greenline circular bus stop sign used in North London circa: 1960/70. This comes from either an old wooden bus shelter or a portable "dolly" stop - unfortunately I cannot remember which one!! As you can see from the second picture the edges have deteriorated somewhat, there is a slight stain on the face and the initials "BD" have been faintly scratched on the lower green band.

January 2009		 You are bidding on a pair of portable bus stops. The main top and pole are of metal construction and the base is concrete. One displays the blue letter C and the other displays Underground Rail Replacement bus service. Both are in good condition with a few marks and dinks to the tops. Very rare and collectable items.
