There are chapters on contruction, maintenance and operations, with sections on fares and tickets, depots, current collection etc. A comprehensive table of construction dates is included, as it a complete list of services as at 1st July 1932. Several other tables give information of night services, through-running arrangements, special services and work cars. |

On 1st July 1933, all the tramways in and arounf London were taken over by the London Passenger Transport Board. The Handbook describes the events leading up to this situation and the eventual outcome of the amalgamation. It faithfully records the gradual decline of the tram and the growth in popularity of the trolleybus. The wartime reprieve amd post-war operation of the remaining tramways is also mentioned, as is the final passing of the remains of this once-great network. Rolling-stock, depots, power supplies, car maintenance and many other factes of the operation of a large tramway system are also described. |
